BuyTicket.NET
BuyTicket.NET is a project by Ekobit, which shows huge possibilities of the .NET platform in the development of distributed applications. The project has been developed for the purposes of the WinDays conference, which was held in Opatija, Croatia, from 3 – 6 April 2001, and it represents one of the first Croatian projects developed for the .NET platform.
BuyTicket.NET is a Web based application for the booking of airplane tickets. The user, after his/her registration, can search the flight database defined by the airport of departure and arrival and the date. After he/she chooses the flight, he/she then selects his/her seat in the airplane and books the ticket by means of a credit card. There is also the option to have the airplane ticket delivered directly to the user's address, as well as the possibility of receiving information about the reservation through e-mail or SMS messages.
Main project goals were:
Distribution: Components can be placed anywhere on the Internet/Intranet
Scalability: To architecture the solution in a way to be able to scale form couple of user requests to thousands of requests
Integration: To use BizTalk and XML as a bridge towards the existing applications, like the "old" financial software
The major part of BuyTicket.NET has been developed in C#. ASP.NET has been used for the web pages development, and SQL XML templates and ADO.NET have been used for database access. All components have been developed as Web services. The database used is SQL Server 2000. For the communication with the legacy applications and orchestration of business processes BizTalk Server has been used. ( see BuyTicket.NET schema).
